This new age is a rather exciting journey for those of who are dog and horse enthusiasts.
This ancient holistic healing system was developed in India and can be applied to companion animals as well as humans. It’s considered by many to be the oldest healing system in human history. Ayurveda is truly holistic in that its goal is to help us achieve balance in our lives and the lives of our canine and equine companions – and to create and sustain health and wellness. Ayurveda treats disease by supporting the body’s ability to resist illness, and by treating the disease directly.
Ayurveda, anages-old therapy, focuses on each equine and canine as an individual.
“What is Ayurveda?” This is the number one question I get asked, and answering it is particularly special to me. Helping horses and dogs “naturally” (the essence of Ayurveda) is a practice that’s gradually resurfacing as horse and dog loving people embrace the fundamental values of alternative medicine, treatments and training.
The fundamental goal of Ayurveda is to help each person discover a personal knowledge of wellness and longevity through physical, emotional and spiritual balance. The term Ayurveda was derived from Sanskrit – Ayur means life or longevity and Vedomeans knowledge or wisdom.
There are three doshas in Ayurveda medicine, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. There are substantial differences between Vata, Pitta and Kaphadoshas from physical characteristics to their accompanying personalities. Eachdosha represents specific areas of the body and is governed by its own functional, structural and mental energy.
This is a very simple description of the Ayurvedic medical system. However, this introduction will hopefully open your heart and mind to what is renowned as a scientific, clinically proven, natural health care system.
